Men with healthy prostates have trace amounts of PSA in their serum, a protein made by prostate gland cells, but prostate cancer, benign prostatic enlargement, and inflammation can cause levels to rise. The PSA-Free test examines the amount of free, unbound PSA in the blood that is particularly circulating and can be used to distinguish prostate cancer from less serious diseases.
